It's hard to say which I prefer, because it really depends on the situation. For example, the first one for me would be better when writing dark or depressive scenes, while the other one has just enough energy that it feels better to use it for mild action scenes or scenes of miniature triumph.

I don't really 'manage' at all? :'D Basically what I do is I work on a project that I have inspiration for in the moment. Then, when I hit a block, I try to find another project I have inspiration for for a while. And so on and so forth.
